We now head to Roxborough where the island marked World Diabetes Day with a Jamboree. It was an ideal occasion to create awareness about diabetes and how this lifestyle disease can be prevented.

Roxborough Anglican Primary School student, Summer Leigh Holder walked away with the top prize in the 9th annual Bovell Cancer Diabetes Foundation island-wide school children poster competition, having the most innovative depiction of the 2017 World Diabetes Day theme, "Women and Diabetes."

World Diabetes Day Events

The Bovell Cancer Diabetes Foundation will hold its 4th Annual "Diabetes in the Limelight Jamboree" on 9th November. Activities will include doctors' consults (eye doctor, dentist and more...); diabetes education; artwork from Primary School Children Poster Competition; children and youth monologue contest; blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol testing; foot exams; extensive weight centre consultations; nutrition screening; food demonstrations; free zumba dancing sessions; prize giveaways and a cultural programme.

A Constant Battle

Adelia Bovell has been waging a war against two major health concerns that affect hundreds of people around the world: cancer and diabetes. The second leading cause of death in Trinidad and Tobago, this country also has one of the highest incidences of diabetes in the Western Hemisphere, according to a study conducted in 2009 by the Trinidad and Tobago Health Sciences Initiative (TTHSI).

‘Diabetes in the Limelight Jamboree’ today in Tobago

The Bovell Cancer Diabetes Foundation will host its third Diabetes in the Limelight Jamboree to celebrate World Diabetes Day. The event will take place today at the Cyd Gray Sporting Complex, Roxborough, Tobago, from 9 am. There will be free transportation for people in some areas and all attendees are asked to wear blue.

Diabetes Claims the Color Blue

Pink is for breast cancer, red is for heart disease, purple for pancreatic cancer and now, blue is for diabetes. I am glad diabetes is going to have a colored ribbon. If the ribbon can do for diabetes awareness what pink has done for breast cancer, it will be a good thing.

Diabetes jamboree in Tobago Friday

The Bovell Cancer Diabetes Foundation invites the public to its second Diabetes in the Limelight Jamboree on November 12 to celebrate World Diabetes Day. The event, which will be held at Cyd Gray Sporting Complex, Roxborough, Tobago beginning at 9 am, will feature blood glucose screening, cholesterol testing, blood pressure checks, food demonstrations, diabetes risk tests, nutrition dcreening, weight, body mass index and body fat measures.
